Our prayer for you

This post is for those who we have had the opportunity to either talk to or hand literature to in some public place or to those who may have found something like a million or trillion dollar bill that was left by us or someone else and have come to see what we are about or perhaps you are in some way offended by what you have heard or read.

Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace. We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. (1Th 1:1-10)

To those who do not possess true faith in Christ:
Our prayer for you is that the message that you heard or read would come to you not as our point of view only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. That means that God will have caused to happen in you the same radical change that He has effected in countless others down through history. If/when that happens to you God's choice of you will be made evident. You will have been granted a radical change of heart. You will really want to turn from the evil things that you have treasured in the past to love and serve the one true God that made you for His own glory. Our prayer is that God will deliver you from His own just and holy wrath to come. As a well known pastor, John Piper has written, "God is infinitely worthy or our admiration, loyalty and respect. Failure to love Him is not trivial it is treason". Our prayer is that our great God and Savior will grant you the gifts of repentance and faith in Christ alone.

To those who do possess true faith in Christ:
Our prayer for you is that God will challenge and encourage you to reject the conformity to this world's standards that is so prevalent in the Body of Christ today. He who would be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. The good news of the glory of Christ is not a message of what people can do to experience life improvement but rather a message of what God has done to rescue truly guilty people from God's righteous indignation. Our prayer is that you will not make it your highest priority to avoid offending anyone. But rather that you will seek to make the message clear to people that desperately need to hear it.
